BAN HIN LAT, PHANGNGA The UN's refugee agency has asked the Thai government to verify reports that authorities fired shots at an intercepted boat carrying 133 Rohingya last month, which may have resulted in at least two deaths.

The UNHCR also wants Thailand to confirm that the boat was dragged twice into international waters, after it was located in Koh Surin in Phangnga province around Feb 20.

The UN's refugee agency on Friday called on the government to investigate reports that Thai navy men shot at Rohingya boat people fleeing sectarian conflict in Myanmar.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has asked the Thai government to verify recent reports that a Rohingya boat was towed out from Thai waters and that shots were fired during the interception.

"The UNHCR has met the survivors of a boat incident reported in Phang Nga, southern Thailand, cross-checked their accounts with other sources and established that the incident is the same one reported by boat people who arrived in Aceh, Indonesia, on February 26," said the agency's spokesperson Fatoumata Lejeune-Kaba.

PHUKET: Thai security forces opened fire on defenceless Rohingya boatpeople north of Phuket, killing at least two and as many as 15, according to detailed accounts by three survivors and Thai villagers who are sheltering them.

The killings, which are said to have occurred on February 22, came during a botched attempt by the military to transfer about 20 would-be refugees from the large boat on which they arrived from Burma (Myanmar) with 110 others, to a much smaller vessel.

When some feared they would be separated from family members, they jumped in the water and the military men opened fire during the predawn incident, the witnesses said.

Generally, it is more important globally to focus on “ how did Rohingya reach at statelessness from indigenous state of  since before 8^th century ,how double standard rules have been perpetuated ,who carried out perpetually the antagonism against Rohingya where both Rohingya and Rakhine Buddhists are passing their lives with peaceful co-existence and how they  are impoverished though there are several resources in western Myanmar, Arakan while the rest communes of respective races around the world are enjoying comfortably in this 21^stcentury of technology era.

During the dictatorship of General Ne Win, he passed strategic master planning  with his chauvinist Burma  armies how to permanently capture the state power and soon  he focused which ethnic group could dominate earlier then  finally he found that the utter  terrible disaster to tackle against  the martial law  is the only one race , Rohingya who are the oldest indigenous race of western Myanamr near bay of Bengal because Rohingya intellectuals of respective fields played great roles both gentleman and ladies

PHUKET: No sign has been found of 14 Rohingya said to have landed on Phuket in a small group of boatpeople 10 days ago, among many now turning up around the entire Indian Ocean region.

Eight of the Rohingya were apprehended quickly on February 22 and are believed to be being held in the Phuket Immigration centre in Phuket City.

Of the other 14 who were reported to have been travelling with them, there has been no sign.
