TWO ROHINGYA UNDOCUMENTED REFUGEES IN MALAYSIAN DETENTION

Recently, the Rohingya Arakanese Refugee Committee (RARC), Malaysia, came to know that two Rohingya refugees who had approached to the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Malaysia for their refugee status determination and protection, reached to the detention after serving 4 months of imprisonment in Guntung Jail of Pahang State.

These two refugees were transferred toAjil Immigration Detention Center of Teranganu on September 12, 2011. They are waiting for the UNHCR intervention.

The RARC is hope that the agency will give visit to them as per the schedule for early release and will recognize them as mandated refugees under the procedure of UNHCR as well.

The RARC knows that the UNHCR is keen to register undocumented Rohingya Burmese refugee applicants. But, all applicant could not get facilities at a time for the matter of UNHCR's official procedure. However, UHNCR gives priority to those who are most vulnerable and in need of urgent protection.
